Studio Verbaan was founded in 2019 by designers Solange Frankort and Jordi Verbaan. The duo, based in Rotterdam, moves effortlessly between product design and autonomous art. Their work combines functionality with sculptural qualities and is known for a visual language that is geometric, pure, and sculptural.
Their creations are often playful and multifunctional. Most objects do not follow a fixed composition, allowing space for a dynamic and ever-evolving exploration of form and function. This flexibility gives each design a distinct, unique character. The contrast between minimalist forms and traditional craftsmanship goes beyond mere functionality and intentionally maintains a layered quality that invites interpretation.
In addition to their autonomous work, Studio Verbaan also designs on commission for other brands and design studios. They combine their clear visual language and minimalist signature with a functional approach, without compromising their own style. Recent projects include a carpet for Moooi Carpets via Form Editions, two table designs for Table du Sud, and a new collaboration with Polspotten.
Studio Verbaan’s designs are realized in a variety of materials, each chosen to suit the form, function, and character of the object.
Solange Frankort studied photography/fine art at the Willem de Kooning Academy and completed a Master’s in fine art/lens-based at the Piet Zwart Institute.
Jordi Verbaan trained as an artisanal woodworker at the Wood and Furniture College (HMC) and also studied fine art at the Willem de Kooning Academy.
